National Nutrition Month

Hello Everyone,

I hope you all are braving this cold weather we’ve been having lately! Only one more cold day left and then we can get back to enjoying Spring!

Its time to put your “best fork forward” because March is National Nutrition Month! During this month we are celebrating making informed food choices and developing good eating and physical activity habits. This campaign is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The theme this year is to “Put Your Best Fork Forward”. This means making small changes to help improve your health now and into the future. When you set small, attainable goals it is much easier to create behavior change and reach larger goals. You can focus on one meal at a time or maybe just one food group. Some ideas for small goals are: making it a goal to eat 3 servings of veggies each day, or having at least 2 plant based meals weekly or making half of your grains whole.

Other tips from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics are:

Vary your veggies: the AND suggests choosing vegetables from all colors of the rainbow to provide the most key nutrients. They also suggest buying local, seasonal produce in order to save money.

Focus on whole fruits: make sure your fruits are colorful. Colorful fruit will provide great sources of fiber that will help with weight control and promote healthy blood glucose levels.
